Se viimeinen aamu / The last morning

Viimeinen aamu koitti tänään One Morning Left yhtyeelle tämän vuoden UMK kilpailussa, kun YLE ilmoitti että yhtye suljetaan pois kilpailusta sääntörikkomuksen vuoksi. Yhden yhtyeen jäsenen epäillään viestitelleen alaikäisen kanssa Irc-galleriassa vuosina 2007 - 2010. 

One Morning Left ilmoitti myös, että heidän tietoon on tullut että sosiaalisessa mediassa on esitetty anonyymisti vakavia syytöksiä yhtä yhtyeen jäsentä kohtaan. Nämä syytökset kohdistuivat Mika Lahteen ja että hän olisi tietoisesti tai tietämättään viestitellyt alaikäisen kanssa Irc-Galleriassa vuosina 2007-2010. Uutinen tuli järkytyksenä kaikille muille yhtyeen jäsenille jotka myös jättivät yhtyeen. He myös lopettavat yhtyeen kaiken toiminnan ja samoin One More Left -osakeyhtiön. Enempää he eivät halua kommentoida asiaa. Mika Lahti kiistää syytökset ja on valmis tekemään  rikosilmoituksen perättömistä väitteistä. 

Itse ihmettelen Yleisradion ja UMK:n toimintatiimin valmistautumista tilanteeseen tai ennenmminkin  valmistautumattomuutta. Eikö seitsemän finalistin taustoja tarkistettu? Varsinkin kun UMK:n omiin sääntöihin viime kesänä tuli lisäyksenä että "Kilpailijan tulee ilmoittaa Ylelle kaikki sellaiset seikat, joilla saattaa olla vaikutusta kilpailijan julkisuuskuvaan, kilpailijan osallistumiseen UMK:hon tai Eurovision Song Contest -kilpailuun”. Jokainen pienikin yritys tarkistaa tulevien työntekijöiden taustat ennen palkkaamista. Varmistiko YLE taustoja etukäteen? Vai haluttiinko tämä asia säästää ohjelman mielenkiinnon lisäämiseksi?

Yleisradion oma kulttuuritoimittaja Mattias Mattila oli myös valmiina analyysinsä kanssa nopeasti, hänen analyysi päättyy sanoihin: "Kun kisassa ei ole mukana One Morning Leftin hassutteluheviä sotkemassa pakkaa, avainasemaan saattaa nousta se ihan alkuperäinen onnistumisen mittari: livenä kuultava laulusuoritus." Oliko tämä draamankaari etukäteen tilattu muutos millä varmistettiin sijaa Yleisradion toivomalle voittajalle? Jokaisen euroviisufanin muistissa on varmasti Yleisradion viitoittama tie Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivän  UMK:n voittoon ja Suomen euroviisuedustajaksi vuonna 2015. Vai oliko se vain onneton tapahtuma? Oli niin tai näin. Mutta onnea kaikille kuudelle osallistujalle ja se kuka teistä UMK:n voittaa, saa taas tuhansien euroviisufanien kannustuksen Baselissa.

The final morning came today for the band One Morning Left in this year's UMK competition, when YLE announced that the band would be excluded from the competition due to a rule violation. One of the band members is suspected of having communicated with a minor in the IRC-galleria between 2007 and 2010.

One Morning Left also announced that they had become aware of serious allegations made anonymously on social media against one of the band members. These allegations were directed at Mika Lahti and that he had knowingly or unknowingly communicated with a minor in the IRC-Galleria between 2007 and 2010. The news came as a shock to all the other band members who also left the band. They are also terminating all activities of the band and the One Morning Left company. They do not wish to comment further on the matter. Mika Lahti denies the allegations and is ready to file a criminal complaint for the unfounded allegations.

I personally wonder about the preparation, or rather the lack of preparation, of the Yleisradio and UMK operations team for the situation. Weren't the backgrounds of the seven finalists checked? Especially when the UMK's own rules were amended last summer to state that "The contestant must inform YLE of all such matters that may have an impact on the contestant's public image, the contestant's participation in UMK or the Eurovision Song Contest". Every small company checks the backgrounds of future employees before hiring. Did YLE verify the backgrounds in advance? Or was this matter saved to increase the interest of the program?

Yleisradio's own culture journalist Mattias Mattila was also ready with his analysis quickly, his analysis ends with the words: "When the contest does not include the pranksters of One Morning Left messing up the package, the original measure of success may become key: a live singing performance." Was this dramatic arc a pre-ordered change to secure a place for the winner that Yleisradio hoped for? Every Eurovision fan will surely remember the road Yleisradio marked out by Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät to the UMK  victory and to represent Finland at Eurovision in 2015. Or was it just an unfortunate event? Be that as it may. But good luck to all six participants and whoever wins the UMK will once again receive the encouragement of thousands of Eurovision fans in Basel.
